In July 2005, Ed Braund (drums), Mandy Fishleigh (keyboard) and George Braun (Guitar) formed a band. After one practise (doing absolutely nothing) Ed and Mandy decided to meet again and also that George shouldn't be in the band anymore, due to musical differences. After a few practises there was a small audition for the part of vocalist in the band, but Mandy was clearly the best of the 3 entrants and it was decided that there would only be two people in the band. Shortly after this decision the band name came along. 2way. The name is a homage to the Bowling For Soup classic song: 'Girl All The Bad Guys Want'. In the opening verse the lyrics are "She wears a two way, but I'm not quite sure what that means.". The name was sugested by the band's friend/number two fan (after Mandy's gran) Adam Ravenscroft. At the time they didn't know what it meant either, until they were informed by the band's good friend, Phil Sykes. It is actually an undergarnment similar to a thong, that is worn by a female, but the thin back strip is the same on the front. But that is not what Ed and Mandy's 2way is about. 2way is may be based on this name, but is a symbol of making music between two people. During this time, Mandy had written 2 sets of lyrics and keyboard scores, titled Unusual and Art Freak Me. The drums were written into the latter and this became 2way's first song. Meanwhile Ed's daddy (word used at his insistence) had heard about a competiton on local radio in which a young band had to perform a song on the theme of family relations. With only Art Freak Me finished it was a quick-fix idea to alter the lyrics. This was done briefly by Adam, but they still needed another song as they felt it was ...how shall we put this... s**t. For the competition the song Just Like Me was written, performed, recorded and entered into the competition very quickly, just making the closing date. After making "It Takes 2 To Tango" and the success that it gave 2way *giggle giggle* 2way started work on there next cd called blind state which gave us a good platform in which to make a new EP 'Dreaming of a ornage xmas', this CD is alot better then the other 2!! |
